Skincare 101: Order of Operations

February 03, 2015 | 3 Comments

Throughout the years, it’s likely that you’ve picked up some beauty wisdom here and there, be it from your grandmother or your favorite magazine. These valuable resources have probably taught you that there’s a general order of operations to follow in your skin care and makeup routine. The better you adhere to it, the more likely you are to see healthy skin.

The same goes for the use of Drunk Elephant’s products. We formulated the entire line to work synergistically, and all items play off of each other’s individual powers and ingredients. We recommend you begin and end each day with proper cleansing (JuJu in the AM, Pekee in the PM). After that, layer our luxurious products on, building up from the thinnest to the thickest.

This would mean in the morning, first put on the light, hydrating C-Firma Day Serum followed by the creamy, white Umbra Sheer Physical Defense SPF 30. And about that oil — let us dispel one myth. You sometimes here that oils create a barrier on your skin. While this is true for oils like olive and coconut, it is not true for our Marula Oil. In fact, Drunk Elephant Luxury Virgin Marula Oil is a “carrier” oil, meaning that when it’s applied, it allows other products to more deeply and thoroughly penetrate your skin. So don’t feel afraid to slather it on in the morning in between the serum and sunscreen, or at night after applying TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum.

Follow this simple thinnest-to-thickest application method, and you'll set yourself and your skin up for success. When your loved ones see your glowing face, they’ll be dying to know what the secret is.

I have been researching for “the perfect” skin care regime for me and have been unsuccessful. Nothing seems to balance my skin. Do you offer a starter kit with all products included? After reading reviews and the research provided, I would love to try this brand.

When should the eye serum go on?

Thank you for this guide. I recently purchased the entire Drunk Elephant line and am eager to see results. I do have a question about where Shaba Complex Eye Serum fits in? Should I apply it before or after the other serums?
