Honey: The Golden Ticket to Great Skin

October 09, 2014

The golden, sticky-sweet substance that is honey has had a long, rich (pun intended) medicinal history. We’re talking thousands of years worth of history; it’s well known that Egyptian royals were often buried with pots of honey which are often uncovered by modern archaeologists excavating tombs. The most amazing thing of all? Because of the substance’s antibacterial properties, the honey remains unspoiled century after century. Herein lies just one tantalizing reason to introduce honey into your health and wellness routine.

Everyone And Their Mother Should Try Drunk Elephant!

April 30, 2014

Mother's Day is on its way and Drunk Elephant is the perfect gift for any Mom...and I know because I'm a Mom!

  • The Virgin Marula is ideal for the Mom who wants to calm, heal and hydrate throughout the day.  She can use it on her cuticles, in her hair...from her head to her toes.  It's luxurious and she will feel totally pampered.
  • The Juju and Pekee Bars are wonderful for the Mom who loves the old-fashioned way of cleansing and likes to keep things simple.  They both do their jobs really well...Juju exfoliates and Pekee cleanses dirt and makeup away at the end of the day.  Your Mom's face will feel fresh in the hot months to come.
  • The C-Firma Day Serum is for the Mom who loved to worship the sun in her younger days, or for a younger Mom who spends a lot of time outside.  It corrects and prevents sun damage.  Her skin will feel and look firmer and best of all, will appear brighter!  What Mom would turn that down?
  • The Umbra Sheer Physical Defense.  An anti-aging, antioxidant-packed, moisturizing, illuminating, protective, non-toxic, chemical-screen-free sunscreen.  Need we say more?  This one is for every Mom.
  • The T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum will give your Mom a smoother and more radiant complexion...practically overnight!  It gently dissolves the glue that hold the dead skin cells to the surface of the skin that nobody really wants hanging around.  It's very effective, but won't irritate.  Mom will be positively glowing and thanking you for it!
  • And, finally, for the picky Mom...you know, the one who knows best.  The one who is super conscious about what she is putting on her skin.  The one who cares about ingredients.  The one who wants to avoid toxins.  The Drunk Elephant Gift Card allows her to browse through all of the products and choose for herself.  She won't have any problem finding something she loves...I promise!

I hope this helps make shopping for the Mom in your life a little easier this year.

OH! This Makes Me Blush

April 22, 2014

Two "do-it-yourself"s in a row, I know, but here is one that I think you'll really love.  As you know, if you read my blog, I'm not a foundation/base girl.  I also don't use blush on my cheeks and I'm sure there are times I could use some.  This little DIY will give you the perfect amount of color and it's all natural.  You know how your cheeks look right after you leave the gym or go for a run?  That's how this looks, but it lasts for way more than just a few minutes!

In addition to being the perfect gel tint for cheeks, it's a great lip stain too.  Unfortunately, as we age, our lips do begin to shrink and fade.  Studies have shown that a clearly defined lip gives us a more youthful appearance.  But stop.  Before you get drastic and start tattooing them (yes, people actually tattoo their lips,) try this instead.  You'll be looking more youthful without all the hassle and cost.

Here's what you'll need:

  • 1-2 Beets
  • Glycerine (make sure it is vegetable-derived)
  • 1 teaspoon Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Oil (for hydration, healing and a shot of antioxidants)
  • A jar to hold the tint
Peel and chop the beets. Put the beets and about two tablespoons (or extra if you like) of glycerine into a double boiler, add the D.E. Virgin Marula Oil and heat the water beneath to a gentle boil. Leave the mixture on the heat for around 15 minutes, watching to be sure the water doesn't get too low. Place the mixture into a strainer and collect the liquid with your jar or container.   Allow to cool before using.  The stain should keep for about six months.

That's it!  Dab on your lips and cheeks for a totally non-toxic, all natural gorgeous pink flush.

The D.E. Difference: Here's The Scoop On Unrefined VS. Refined Marula Oil

April 07, 2014

We don't call ours "Virgin" for nothing.

Early on, when I was in the testing phase, I learned what a typical "refining" process looks like.  I was surprised.  First, caustic soda or sodium hydroxide is added to the raw oil, followed by bleach.  The oil is then “deodorized."  At this point, the oil is "cut" with a less expensive oil, thereby cutting the overall cost. Many production facilities actually mass-crush the nuts to produce the oil, removing "impurities with the chemical treatments mentioned above

Is Marula Oil Really Better than Argan Oil? In a Word...Yes

February 18, 2014

Argan oil, from the seed of the Argan tree and sometimes referred to as “liquid gold,” is a great all-around facial oil that led the pack in the facial oil frenzy that came upon the skin care scene a few years ago. I used it and loved it myself. However, the day I discovered Marula oil, I made the switch. It just felt better to me and I knew I had stumbled upon the star ingredient in my skin care line-to-be.

So why is Marula better than Argan?

1)     It’s higher in antioxidants and remarkably better at fighting free radicals. In fact, Marula oil typically has 16% more  antioxidants than any Argan oil you can find on the market today.  In other words, it has powerful anti-aging properties.
